I hope this isn't serious. Because clearly, if they left in "Son of God, love's pure light" "Jesus, Lord at thy birth!" they're not trying to avoid Church doctrine.

My thoughts too. I think they just wanted to shorten the song, so they took out the middle verse. It's still an explicitly Christian text.

Also, it's super common to condense songs, remove verses, skip choruses, etc., in movies to make them fit the scenes better.

And it's common for broadcasters to go and shorten that down even more so they can fit it into a better time slot and cram in more ads(and make you question your sanity when movies have the most petty of differences that just don't feel right)
