Choir Director here. The verse in question is not commonly known in pop music spheres, especially if you dont grow up singing hymns in church. The Third verse specifically references 2 of the three facets of Trinitarian doctrine so I really think that this was less of a choice of removing Christ because it still says Jesus Lord.

Before the song started, I just said to myself "Christ the savior is born" will NOT be in this. And sure enough, they removed the line. Why did I just know that would happen?

"Sleep in heavenly peace" is a nice "wear your mask and be docile" type of line. Why are they adding that line at the end like that?

Further, the lines they kept in just don't have the punch. "Christ the savior is born" is like the main chord that pronounces boldly the point. It's so watered down without it.
