It's not like the national guard is THAT busy. I'm sure they would LOVE to have a hand in making sure the elections in our country are free and fair. It's not like it's asking a lot for them to help out in the process.

People vote in private on paper and drop ballots in box. Polls close, box is unlocked still in view of public and counted one at a time. Counter reads out each one with observers behind them from each party. Keep going 24/7 until it is done. Don't care if it takes a week and multiple shifts. Public can watch the count in person, and a camera is on the box and the counting 24/7 and livestreamed for anybody to watch online. None of this back room counting shit. No absentee ballots with exception of military.

It would also localize fraud, so that some counties may be corrupt, but it would be a massive undertaking to do any coordination. As opposed to a centralized computer system where they can view votes live as they are coming in... all the way from Germany.
