My general stance is that every culture or nation will do something shitty in its timeline. Moorish invasion of Europe. Crusades. Hitler. Trail of Tears. Uyghur Muslim death camps. Therefore no culture can claim to be morally superior and no culture deserves to continue just because it existed first: see Aztecs and Mayans.

Amazon is openly developing (and basically giving away) alexas to make neighborhood meshes - could be used for any number of things, from "safety" (how it will be branded, i'm sure) to individual tracking (pedestrian traffic/activity levels / pattern analysis) to in-home surveillance (oh, you currently have more than 10 devices in your home owned by others right now, must alert the police, for safety)
