I have a friend in the Bronx, a retired NYPD cop. He has ptsd and anxiety, along with MS, which is not a good mix. I wish he'd get out, but he says, "I was born and raised here, I can't imagine leaving." Dumb. You guys are stuck right now. He lives in an area with high Albanian and Italian concentration. They don't play with rioters, so he feels relatively safe. Still, he is basically feeling tired and sick and it makes ma angry for him. Good luck to you.
I feel him. Im in the bx as well...irish and american irish. When the riots were happening the MEN were out on the streets making sure the neighborhood was safe. The local PCT said protect yourself, we wont do anything to you.
Its hard to leave a city you were born and raised in. NY is awesome. We had an amazing, diverse, city and you can go from a beautiful beach to the mountains in 2 hrs.
Its not the state, its the shitty people that ruined this place.
Yeah, I hear you. He says it's not his city any more. My friend is Irish/Puerto Rican, but lives alone and his sisters and mom bugged out years ago. He's stubborn and still wants to protect people, but he's 56 and needs to simmer down.
I want to go visit, but hesitate to enter the fray right now. As a former cop, he's sick of what's happening with cops right now. The other day he was walking to the store to get cigs and spotted a guy outside the bank near him. He stopped and watched the guy, who was waiting for an old lady to come out. He grabbed her purse and knocked her down. My friend ran after the guy and got him. Two cops across the street were on their phones so they were oblivious. The lady will forever be grateful.
Friend had to go to precinct and got accused of being violent by the perp. Now they want him to go to court over it. He won't and basically says screw them.
