"Twitter is a private company, they can do what they want. " - as long as it's legal. They are claiming to be a platform while making editorial content decisions. Sorry, can't have it both ways, I hope they are sued into bankruptcy.
The private company principle fails when you reach a certain scale and impact.
Imagine all the standard roads were owned by twitter. All the pavements by facebook.
That's basically the situation you have online. Also depriving people is gagging them. You go from being able to reach a billion people in a fashion to hardly anyone.
It is the equivalent to putting someone under house arrest. Extreme relative confinement. It is extremely unequal. Imagine in a case someone is saying something untrue about you to billions of people and you don't even have the power to say anything back.
They're supposed to be bound to common carrier rules at this point the same as your ISP or mail service.
I think what you really need to worry about is this. Twitter will disappear anyone it likes for any reason. Anyone that they disagree with for example.
Imagine if the people running twitter were running the country. Now also think that they're doing this to try to decide who runs the country.

The phone company is a private company. they cannot do what they want period they are a platform and they must provide service to all people without discriminating based on religion race Creed political affiliation etc. The phone company cannot say that you are not allowed to phone a certain person because they go against their phone companies political beliefs. yet that is exactly what Twitter and other big tech is doing. They suppress conservative views while boosting progressive views. They do this while claiming that they are platform and not a publisher. if they were a publisher they would be held responsible for all the content on their Network that they publish. Live streamed killings for one. but they claim to be a platform so they are not responsible for items that are on their platform. Yet they continue to editorialize and discriminate. so fuck off with they are a private company they can do what they want.
