These politicians live in a bubble where all of their friends and colleagues are in on this corruption and betrayal. They are shitting bricks just thinking about confessing or doing anything about it - they are not just confessing to their own crimes but turning against everything they know. That's a powerful effect. I'm afraid that it will take a serious move by Trump to lock them all up but that's what needs to happen.
