And I'm confused, because I thought truckers were given trailers to tow and told where to take them. I didn't know anyone would ever have their own trailer unless they were doing some sort of trade that only incidentally involved driving.

In companies like that where there are shared trailers, truck lifts, etc informal claims are made on the best stuff and there is a hierarchy. It wasn’t his trailer but it was ‘his’ trailer among company trailers.

My UPS freight delivery driver was bitching to me that someone new snagged his truck lift that day. I was frustrated with him helping bc the one he was stuck with was a piece of shit.
