The only thing I can think of is that if the DOJ were investigating he isn't supposed to talk about ongoing investigations. Also, it could give the appearance of weaponizing the DOJ against a political opponent. That being said, he should have just kept his mouth shut or resign if he isn't up for the job. Also the DOJ doesn't investigate election fraud, the DHS does.
