A lot of people are under the impression that Taiwan will be the first country China will outright attack in a WWIII event.
Not so.
Taiwan can only be assaulted directly from China by sea between during 3 months out of the year due to very heavy currents that separate the two, which is why Taiwan has survived for so long while defiant of China's rule.
China needs to take a southern post to stage a takeover of Taiwan to get around that geological down time.
This is a power play to set up a military satellite, and should be seen as nothing else. Australia will be the first to fall followed shortly by Taiwan, that is unless we can ensure China has an enemy in the USA, Europe, and others to stop that annexation.

Thing is I wouldn't bet on the Chinese military, it's a group that's rarely tested and when they do enter actual armed conflict fail badly. China is a paper tiger that has generated massive wealth for the ruling party by selling slave labor, then used that wealth to buy power and influence in Western governments. The day China has to try and enforce their will via direct military might against a reasonable opponent is the beginning of the end for China, it'll go down in history as their marching on Moscow in the winter moment.
