Like I just mentioned in another comment, the delegates are bound to vote for their party's candidate. This is another example of the brilliance of the constitution. It forces an outcome.
Bound by what? The Constitution, as far as I'm aware, allows them to deliberate as long as necessary to select a President, and the Speaker of the House becomes the acting President if inauguration day passes.
