I've always liked the quote "A true patriot will defend his country from its government". You can be a Patriot, and be critical of the government. I'm an advocate of small government, but I still love my country!

For me, one of the true genius of the Founding Fathers was to realize that government is a necessary evil and thus must be kept to a minimum set of ordinances and duties.
Without it, you have anarchy. Too much of it, you have tyranny.
Nowhere else in the world a country has been founded under such clear interpretation.
Exactly, it's why I call myself a Minarchist. My desire is for an state with minimum government, a government that would exist to provide defense for your natural rights (i.e. courts), defense of the nation (strong borders, military), and defense of the free market (ensuring anti-trust laws, fair, and equitable trade deals).
Moving towards anything else is a move towards ideologies that are fundamentally anti-American, like Communism, and Fascism. Less Government, more Capitalism should be the way forward.

The founders rejected the notion of special privileges. No immunity for government agents. No titles of nobility. No law degrees for lawyers or judges. No exemptions from the law for anyone for any reason of status or position.
