No, we pay taxes because we want our government to build roads, schools, provide clean water, electricity, and to make sure stripper’s vaginas don’t stink when we walk up to tip them a dollar bill.
No, we pay taxes because we allow it to be stolen from us. Are you saying that communities wouldn’t build their own roads and schools? Hire their own police forces? The good ones would grow, the bad ones would either change or fail. Sounds pretty logical to me
They would. They do. By taxing. The alternative is feudalism where the local lord buys as much of those public services as he finds useful to him, and the heck with everybody else.
Alas that does go on now, anyway. But we do have "public money" which is supposed to benefit everybody and be voted on how it is spent.
If the street lights were privately owned, you might have to pay a dollar to walk past one. If you were hard up that month, you would be denied normal things like street lights.
It's nice to have free parks. You can sit in them even when you are too broke to pay an entrance fee. They are public, taxpayer funded.
So the basis for your argument is the only thing holding the republic together is federal taxation? We’d do away with elections and feudalism would reign supreme because we don’t have our wages garnished? Holy shit where were you when King George needed you?

Some taxing is necessary.
