Disclaimer: I've only seen the version on Disney+, and the following is my opinion.

I agree with NotakTheWiser. It's extremely overrated, not to mention that it went to extremes to "colorize" and "re-culturize" the story of the Founding. Beyond that, it's extremely forgettable as far as a musical/play goes.

Ironically, the greatest character (by far) was a white guy: King George. My next favorite was George Washington... because it's George Washington (I'm so glad they didn't destroy his character).

Jefferson had swag (the real Jefferson deserves the accolades, for sure), and it makes you root for him against Hamilton at every point... then again, Hamilton was presented just so terribly that you'd be rooting for Joe Biden over him (more on that later). The problem I had with Jefferson is that he may have had too much swag (or at least the type that makes him seem too childish and immature for such an enlightened man). Also, the same actor play a Frenchmen earlier in the play... which was played as a cartoonish comedic role... which was appropriate for a Frenchman, but not for an American Founding Father.

Now, back to Alexander Hamilton... his character was absolutely atrocious! I'm not a fan of the real Hamilton, so this play/portrayal didn't improve my liking of him any. Let's just say that Hamilton is a prime example of how being the writer/producer comes with benefits. Lin-Manuel Miranda is absolutely terrible. He can't sing, he can't act, and he can't write music worth a dime. For the whole play, I was scratching my head how he was even on the stage, little on the titular character... then, I found out he was the boss man. Let's just say this... whatever awards he got for Hamilton, he deserved them about as much as Obama deserved the Nobel prize.

As, for the music, there were only one or two songs that are even pleasant or get stuck in your head (one being King George's theme). The rest were humdrum or worse (I am NOT a fan of rap/hip-hop). I honestly don't remember Hamilton actually singing a single note. I don't even know what he does... call it rap or whatever, but it's like he just speaks his lines in rhythm with music... it's bad. I can easily say that the two women outclass everyone vocally.

Am I glad I watched it? I am glad that I saw it so I know what it is. If you have Disney+ already, and can watch it with no further cost, I'd recommend watching it also when you have nothing better to do. You may get a kick out of King George or so (and yes, I would watch a full musical of just him). But if you're wanting to watch a musical, and you're in a patriotic mood, I'd go with 1776 instead. It may be older and stuffy, but there are times where you can really feel the weight of the decisions and consequences the Founders were dealing with. At least it was a celebration of America and Liberty.

I enjoyed it overall - I don’t like the Angelica character and I agree with your assess of Jefferson. But you’re spot on with LMM. The songs are catchy, but he’s the weak link. Would have loved to see a different actor as Hamilton. Jonathan Groff is the best person on stage and I love his song, it’s SO good. “I will kill your friends and family, to remind you of my love” 😂 I also like Leslie Odom Jr a lot and I listen to “The room where it happens” all the time at home.

Ok, you may have just convinced me to give it a watch. Haha. I’m ashamed to admit that we still are paying for Disney+, so might as well watch it.

Great review, btw. It’s almost comical how different your opinion is than liberal cucks I’ve heard discuss it, who go on and on about how they can’t stop listening to the soundtrack and how aMaZiNg Lin Manuel is.
