TJ's father died when he was young, he was appenticed to a lawyer and spent his teen years studying and working without pay. He also studied architecture and married, built his home and laid out the best gardens in VA, buried his wife, raised 3 daughters without remarrying, founded and built the University of VA, was the leading expert on North American flora and fauna, launched studies into North American Indian cultures in order to learn from them, wrote and sponsored a bill outlawing slavery in the VA legislature, (it didnt pass), founded the library of Congress with his own books, and many other remarkable things; but one thing he never did was father children with a slave woman. An entirely worthy man we can all be proud of.
