That's were the US hospital is located. Nothing odd about the hop.

Clearly someone had them jumping paddles for the next few months trying to earn their keep running leapfrogs for the weak and weary.

I’m not super familiar with the medical SOP but this is routine for serious injuries down-range.

Provide immediate lifesaving aid on site, stabilize locally, then transport to Germany for more in-depth term treatment.

Please get a clue. This is absolutely standard operating procedure.

Nah. We have major medical facilities in there. It’s not terribly uncommon for those with more serious injuries to be sent to Germany. Granted Italy seems more appropriate from a distance perspective.

I’d expect they would have likely brought him to a closer field hospital for triage and then once stabilized they would begin the trip to Germany and begin organizing an opportunity for next of kin to visit.

Italy doesn't have a US Role IV facility like Landstuhl.

A lot of you don't understand roles of care. Landstuhl is defined as "definitive care," the most capable trauma center that covers EUCOM/AFRICOM/CENTCOM when there is a serious injury to a service member.

There is similar level of care at Walter Reed, Fort Sam, and one more, I think in Japan.

All major trauma cases from Afghanistan and Iraq pass through Landstuhl en route to an American destination to be stabilized and treated until they are ready to fly.

The question is if there was a bullet in him, was it US issue?
