I'm an avid reader, but ignored politics and books like 1984 for too long. I need to catch up on this. I am trying to remember another book, along the lines of 1984, but it explores the thought of self imprisonment thru our own weakness and desires.

Anything will be helpful. Maybe we can get a conservative library list going. I also like to know how the "enemy" thinks, so titles that are outside the box are appreciated, too

This. 1984 was prescient in countless ways, but BNW covers everything Orwell missed (pornography, religion, and euthanasia, pharmaceuticals, purpose...)
