He says this because he has the evidence? He must because if Lin was lying it would be an easy case of libel.

also, it is super hard for a politician to sue someone for defamation

Public Figures hard to sue for defamation,. This is why Nick Sandmann was able to sue for so much and win cause he was just a normal person.
