According to the constitution, the rightful winner is those the state electors pick and accepted by congress. The state electors are chosen by the state legislature.
Who is picked is not decided by anything other than the the aforementioned people's whim. There is no process for throwing out an EC elected President and given to someone else.
The only remedy provided by the constitution is impeachment, and only if proven the President is somehow the one guilty of crimes. Then it follows the chain of succession, not whoever came second in some election.

If the state electors picked a winner based on fraud, then any president picked by that would be null and void. State electors can then realign their pick to the actual winner to correct the issue. The point is, if one was never legally president to begin with, then they have no constitutional protections. There would be no need for succession, since the rightful president should be seated as if they were always president.
State electors pick a winner based on their own decisions. You cannot get inside their head and determine the reason why they picked someone. There is nothing to connect it to.
Legality of who is POTUS and VPOTUS is based on who the electors voted for and whether congress accepted it or not.
A state's popular vote having a strong tie to who a state votes for is imaginary. It may happen in actuality most of the time, but it doesn't have a legal standing as far as the federal government is concerned.

As someone who grew up in the Italian-American community, I can say the show is 100% authentic (coming from a Chicago point of view - never been to NYC or NJ). There are some other shows that are the real deal or come close to it. I recommend Band of Brothers and The Pacific from HBO if you haven't seen them lately. But in terms of a show like the Sopranos how it just shows regular parts of life, I really don't know. Maybe Breaking Bad?
