I've been re-watching that series recently. Was The Sopranos the last based mainstream show?? Tony Soprano even quotes FBI crime statistics after his daughter brings back a Black boyfriend.

In the show, he ended up taking her virginity via typical hipster douchebag male feminist bullshit, and then basically dumped her.
As someone who grew up in the Italian-American community, I can say the show is 100% authentic (coming from a Chicago point of view - never been to NYC or NJ). There are some other shows that are the real deal or come close to it. I recommend Band of Brothers and The Pacific from HBO if you haven't seen them lately. But in terms of a show like the Sopranos how it just shows regular parts of life, I really don't know. Maybe Breaking Bad?
BB was amazing, but I wouldn't call it "based". It doesn't espouse traditional right-wing values like virginity, marriage, ethnic pride, anti-gayness, etc like Sopranos does (of course they lie, cheat, and kill but it's never shown in a positive light)
