God says “do this”, and leaves it up to you to obey or disobey. I don’t know what Bible you’re reading but if this was coercion, then God is terrible at it, because disobedience to God is the norm throughout the Bible.
God sees it sufficient to let the disobedient continue in their disobedience until such time as He decides to judge them accordingly. This isn’t coercion, this is judgement; someone who is coerced into obedience has no cause for judgement.
Jesus came to set people free. He didn’t coerce people into following Him or obeying Him. He didn’t seek influence or power. He didn’t even seek attention. In fact, He actively fled unwanted praise and attention on multiple occasions. It goes so far as to say a bent reed He will not break off and a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish when describing Jesus. Jesus Christ walked in the least coercive manner possible.
God says do this, like the law says do this, they both offer free will AND consequences. God manifesting as Jesus Christ didnt come to this earth and tell a sodomite "that is your truth", or "whatever you do in your home is your business" He said I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER BUT BY ME.
This is a non-sequitur and has nothing to do with freedom or coercion.
You are confusing Jesus earthly ministry as the sacrificial lamb, silent before his shearers, to JESUS'S COMING JUDGEMENT when he comes back breathing fire with a sword in his mouth coming to JUDGE the wicked, the same you seek to justify.
Judgement, not coercion. Also, we're commanded to follow Jesus, who gave us His life as an example. This didn't include passing judgement on one another, which He Himself didn't even do and cautioned us against doing.
You pervert God's judgement in your advocation of sin. Not that we arent all sinners, but not all sins are equal (there are 6 things God hates and 7 are an abomination unto him). God didnt burn Sodom and Gomorrah cause it was "their truth".
First, you don't know me. Second, I have no idea what you're talking about with this "their truth" business. It has nothing to do with anything we were talking about.
As a supposed Christian you complacency with wickedness is alarming, but then again it explains the churches own corruption. Allowing abominations as "liberty" is not the Jesus I know who said the law was Holy, just, and good. The only liberty is in Christ Jesus. Repent of your Satanic doctrine
I don't even go to Church. You don't know what you're talking about.
Jesus Christ came to set us free. He allows the wheat and the tares to grow up together until the time of judgement. Everything He does is about liberty and freedom, yes, even to sin. That doesn't mean sin is good; sin is a bondage and a curse, but God doesn't force us to do anything. He wants us to be free, free from worldly powers and influences, yes, but most of all free from sin. The only time He forces anything on us is when He delivers judgement. This is why I say freedom is a Biblical value and coercion is not. It's perplexing how you can even disagree with this.
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. -- Matthew 7:1-2
Does this sound like encouragement from Jesus to coerce one another into obedience?
I’m not even a Libertarian but you need to chill. Freedom is a Biblical value. Coercion is not.
