Trump needs to call for the best minds in the country to come together to create an election system that is tamper-proof, transparent and completely trustworthy. It may end up being a hybrid of paper and machine, but the most important thing is real-time online auditability. This might best be achieved with blockchain technology and OCR (to track paper ballots). You tell me, fellow pedes!
I'm not a big fan of government projects, so maybe we can find market solutions for different jurisdictions and election types, but standardization of interfaces and protocols (and complete online visibility) seems achievable and minimally necessary.
They could make some sort of wooden box, with a slot on top. The box would start empty, and each person would put their vote in after they have been identified.
The better ones don't use electricity, and they don't need the Internet to work. Because of the innovative wooden design, they can also be produced locally, and not in China.
