I used to be so anti private or home school. I have a 4 month old daughter. My opinion may be changing fast.

My best friend just pulled her kindergartener and preschooler out of public school in Wisconsin to homeschool them.

Her kindergarten teacher read a book called Our Class is a Family. My best friend was soooo angry. Her 5 year old came home talking about how his class was his family now and argued with her when she told him that that wasn't true that his mom, dad, and siblings were his family and his classmates were classmates and friends and his teacher was his teacher. She then looked deeper into what they were teaching her child and found out the counselor was going to start sexual education lessons without informing her! She caught the teacher in several lies and the teacher just blew off her concerns. She literally pulled them out the next week.

She said she noticed a huge difference in his behavior after he started school. He started being extra sassy and arguing and talking back to her. After just a month at home, all that has stopped and he is back to being her sweet boy.

Plus, she can get all of his schooling done in a couple of hours every afternoon. He is whipping through his math book, and she's letting him go as fast as he wants to... where in school he would be going slowly. Homeschooling is amazing! If I ever have kids I will NEVER put them in public school after the horror stories I've heard from everyone I know (teachers and parents) that are involved in the school system.

The principal at my son's Fort Worth independent school district 6th grade school told me she could not ensure his safety after he beat a thugs ass. That says everything you need to know about public schools. It was self defense. The more you know.

That is horrible! I'm also from the DFW area.

A few years ago, my nephew was targeted by a kid who went out of his way to bully him. This escalated until the kid threatened to bring a knife from home to stab him. The school's response was to try to move my nephew to a new class.

My sister had to throw a full on hissy fit in front of the principal for them to take her seriously. She asked why they thought it was appropriate to move her son and disrupt his schedule when he didn't do anything wrong. They hemmed and hawed and finally agreed to move the screwed up kid to another class. He then went on to target other kids and eventually was sent to a special school for troubled kids. But it took MONTHS for that to happen, and who knows what he did to the other kids. They were in 4th grade.
