Public hanging isn't gruesome enough. Something like tar and feathers or draw and quartering is more appropriate. These traitorous vermin need to be sent a powerful message.
With a bit of time between the different spots, waiting until the recognition of its finality, and the error of their ways, becomes apparent in their eyes.
(The downside to such a procedure is it could allow the culprit a chance to accept Christ on their way out. Frankly, that possibility is more of an argument for a quick four to the noggin.)
