My normie friends have occasionally referred to 'Hillary's emails' when they mean either:
The DNC emails that were leaked by a DNC insider, or;
The Podesta emails that were phished, or;
The DCCC emails that were purposely leaked by insiders with fake 'Russian fingerprints' to use as their cover story (actually proven to be Ukrainian malware, so they couldn't even get their fake cover story right).
Hillary's emails should mean the clintonmail.com emails from her personal server that was also used for state department communications with her and her staff. But to your point, normies can't distinguish any of these. I can not recall if any/many of those were leaked, though I think some may have been released under FOIA.
Were the later leaks attributed to Guccifer 2? I recall those were thought to be fake and done by the Hillary team at the time. Apparently, the FBI is the Hillary team.
We were actually told this by multiple sources in 2016. People just believed the MSM too much and dismissed it.

OP never said Podesta nor DNC. What was wrong here? The DNC emails were also insiders. They both were and we knew it all along.
He said "HILLARY" which is commonly confused for the Podesta leaks since he was her campaign manager.

All the docs from 'guccifer 2.0' was disinformation purposefully leaked by the DNC to make the other leaks look like they were of russian origin.
