What did Joseph and Daniel have in common?

"inspired by" is a much better choice of words. Both were very obviously actually written by completely mortal human beings. I'm a strong Christian. Scriptural inspiration is clearly evident. Our Constitution is great, as were our founding Fathers. They were guided, imho. But it's a completely secular text.

These facts need to be acknowledged in order to interact with anyone outside the Church.

The Old Testament is full of situations where the enemies of God's people were humiliated in the most comical ways. God truly has a sense of humor.

The Book of Esther is both Shakespearean and hilarious. It would be perfect Looney Tunes fodder if you replaced the 75-foot impalement pole with something less gruesome.

OldbreedAmerican76 61 points ago +61 / -0

I should read the Bible again, my faith has been somewhat weak the last couple decades.

60
Jobu567 60 points ago +61 / -1

I'm with you, fellow pede. I still accept Jesus as my lord and savior, but faith has wavered this year, and it shouldn't have, I just let the world lead me instead of Jesus. Read the Bible past few days and my faith has returned. Crazy how that works.

32
OldbreedAmerican76 32 points ago +32 / -0

Same here. I still believe in God, but I often find myself asking the age old "why does He let this stuff happen" question. I try, but it's hard.

“The Problem of Pain” by C.S. Lewis has been of comfort to me along those lines, along with his work “A Grief Observed,” which was his journal account following his wife’s passing.

Above all, put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and stand strong, frens! The ultimate victory is assured!

16
Independenceforever 16 points ago +16 / -0

Pain and suffering is how we best learn compassion, courage, and gratitude.

Adversity creates men. Prosperity creates monsters.

Jesus answered this. He said, "men love darkness, rather than light." That is the reason for evil. The deeds of men are also only evil contually according to the Scriptures. It is because of sin that bad things happen. None of us are without sin. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. We are earning our wages when we sin, and those wages are death and destruction. Come to an end of yourself, you cannot fix the law of God which you have broken by doing good works. Trust only on Jesus who paid the debt for our sin and took our wages upon Himself, even though He had never sinned. That is salvation when you stop trusting yourself and start trusting Christ.

2

I've realized this in the early 2000s in the Philippines. There are many priests who lecture politics and misinterpretations which led me to stop attending their services. I used to go regularly and donate when I was younger, but as time went on these people stopped making sense.

Those who haven't read and understood the bible can easily be fooled since there is no basis to compare the lies to.

6
Forgototherpassword 6 points ago +6 / -0

Dear Lord, please stop what they are attempting to do or they will do exactly what you said they were going to do.

Always keep the faith.

26
The_banned 26 points ago +27 / -1

You have to remember that this world is doomed to fall before the Lord comes back. Even if we win this one, it will fall eventually, but we have better things to look forward to. Only exception is that we ALWAYS fight for what is right, even if it seems hopeless. We fight until the very end because that is God's work!

13
GodfreydeBullion 13 points ago +13 / -0

Always fighting for what's right but knowing eventually the evil one will have his day is what Tolkien called "The Long Defeat." Still gots to fight.

4
CuomoisaMassMurderer 4 points ago +4 / -0

Anything in the Bible is better than Tolkien. No offense.

Everybody's mad this year because evil has grown stronger in our world. Recognizing it for what it is is helpful.

Trusting God now means knowing evil will continue to get stronger, until it takes over completely. Briefly. But

NOT ON OUR WATCH!

We are here to prevent that. As long as we're here, we prevent that.

4
TacticalWitdotcom 4 points ago +4 / -0

This has always deeply concerned me but I still pray in hope we don't have to go through that because Moses changed God's mind by his intercession for the Jewish people. My husband and I have debated this a lot... because God knows the past and the future; yet he makes provision for our freewill and prayer. I don't know how that all works synonymously, but I believe God hears us.

Get a Bible study. Don’t matter how smart you are, a history book is always more entertaining through the eyes of a true historian, they understand language and insights you’ll never pick up. The Bible is one of the few books that gets more and more and more true/entertaining the more you are able to understand it. Every other religion lacks this fundamental truth that the Bible has, which is that it is the truth.

This guy gets it. There’s so much to unravel you can’t do it in a million lifetimes because it’s true. If you start to unravel even one thread you’ll find out it’s an endless thread and that it’s the best story of all time because it is THE STORY.

They come for the Jews first, then they come for the Christians. All the flinging aside there’s a reason they do that. Very different people but connected in more ways than pelt know.

Speaking of which does anyone want to chime in on the sisters who slept with their father? If memory serves me correctly. (Rereading the book now so I could be mistaken.) Wild times.

3
MerlynTrump 3 points ago +3 / -0

From what I remember it was after God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. They thought everyone was wiped out and the only way to keep the human race populated was to get pregnant by their father, so they got him drunk and slept with him but then were rebuked for this.

I read a comment on another blog this morning: "Pray that the Almighty God gives Trump and his people strength and fortitude to carry on. Pray for victory. I would also say, pray that it is obvious that Trump didn't do all the work, but that the Almighty intervened because of the prayers of His people. Let His power and might be exalted throughout the land."

It reminds me of Gideon's army, that God reduced to just 300 men, lest they brag that they had won the battle themselves. Impossible odds make no difference, if it is God's will.

The House only votes by state delegation in the case of a contingent election after neither candidate receives 270 electoral votes. In all other cases, including a vote to either certify or not certify the results from a given states electors, the House and Senate would both vote normally, with each congressmen getting their own vote. It would take a majority in the House to toss out electoral votes from contested states

4
fskfsk 4 points ago +4 / -0

What happens if the Senate votes to toss and the House votes to accept? It's pretty much guaranteed to be all the Democrats voting to accept.

7
EatDatSideOfBeef 7 points ago +7 / -0

I believe that the vote is technically over whether or not to decertify, and in case of no vote or a failed vote in either chamber then the votes are accepted.

1
deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0
-3
DisgustedByMisleadia -3 points ago +2 / -5

1
bighomiebeenchillin 1 point ago +4 / -3

what if da supremes say chucksies on all da illegal ballots

3
EatDatSideOfBeef 3 points ago +3 / -0

That's an entirely different scenario, mostly based on the exact suits that pro-Trump lawyers file and how SCOTUS chooses to act based on their decisions. In theory, if all the fraudulent states are rectified by the courts then the whole nullification of electoral votes process won't be necessary. The election will either be decided for Trump or go to a contingent election where the VP is decided by the Senate and the President is picked by the 50 state delegations to the House

1
Morokei 1 point ago +2 / -1

My only take from that article is that we are headed to a military/civil war solution because neither the Constitution nor Electoral College statute are clear. Nor is the role if any of the Supreme Court.

The joint session of congress where they read the ballots is presided over by...

VP Pence.

25
Ben45 25 points ago +25 / -0

went back and read that in the Constitution, didn't think of the fact that by presiding over the joint session he would have all the powers to choose how to count the votes, etc.

4
muhqtardtho 4 points ago +4 / -0

He must be the guy from the protest outside that NYC restaurant.

7
jgardner 7 points ago +7 / -0

The way the rules are probably written:

  1. The presiding officer makes decisions about any disagreement about how the rules should be applied.
  2. If someone objects, he can raise a point of order.
  3. A majority vote can silence any point of order.

Thus, the "nuclear option" (a term coined by democrats who actually did this): The presiding officer says, "What rules? This is what we're going to do." Someone objects, and the majority says, "Shut up!" Guess who the majority will be?

It is, after all, the will of the body that determines the actions. The rules are simply an agreement between each other how they will conduct business. They are perfectly fine suspending the rules if they get in the way.

And trust me, the rules WILL get in the way.

2

5

Somebody on here said they literally can’t and are mandated. Dunno if that’s true

5
EatDatSideOfBeef 5 points ago +6 / -1

It's not, each state's delegation to the House makes their own decision amongst themselves and then they vote by state. The 27-23 number comes from the fact that 27 of the 50 delegations to the House are majority Republican, but in theory any of those delegations could still vote for Biden.

5
Sugar4Brains 5 points ago +5 / -0

so if two rino states flip and we get a tie? then what?

2
MrsSilenceDogood 2 points ago +3 / -1

We break it with rules of Queensberry and Sam Colt

1
EatDatSideOfBeef 1 point ago +2 / -1

They just keep holding votes until they decide on someone. If they haven't made a decision by Jan 20th then the lame duck POTUS, VP and Sec of State all leave office and whoever the Senate selected as the new VP becomes President. If both chambers are deadlocked then the Speaker of the House becomes Acting President until someone comes to a decision in the contingent election

2
AlaskaTrumper 2 points ago +2 / -0

Finally, Pelosi’s plan comes to light.

1
EatDatSideOfBeef 1 point ago +1 / -0

Honestly, I think the odds that Pelosi ends up acting president are pretty low. If each ticket earns less than 270 electoral votes and the election goes to Congress, the Senate votes on a Vice President at the same time that the House votes on a President and unlike in the House all 100 Senators each get a vote. It would take five non-Democrats voting for Harris to get her the VP slot because, unlike in the House where a tie just requires a revote, Pence can probably vote for himself if needed. It's probably even possible for Pence to immediately appoint Trump as his VP and then resign and let the new President Trump make him VP again after inauguration

13
MsAnthropic 13 points ago +14 / -1

No, they don’t have to - that’s the point. They can all send electors for Biden and Pence can refuse to accept them, which means it goes to the House. Where Trump wins.

2
deleted 2 points ago +3 / -1
6
MsAnthropic 6 points ago +7 / -1

No, I believe it’s a state delegation vote if neither candidate gets 270, which is what this would be.

5
RealWomenLoveTrump 5 points ago +5 / -0

If a states votes are contested by someone in each chamber, then they go into deliberation, where things will likely fall on party lines. If I read things correctly, if either chamber accepts the electoral votes as cast, then that's how they are. I really hope I'm wrong about that!!! Someone please tell me I'm wrong!!

2
EatDatSideOfBeef 2 points ago +2 / -0

The vote if no one gets to 270 is different from the vote if a member of Congress tries to discount a given state's electoral votes. Pence can't unilaterally ignore a state's electoral votes if they only send a single set to be confirmed by Congress, he can only pick the set he wants if both the governor and the legislature send different results.

we're at the point now where each state is having enough evidence presented such that the folks in congress can have the cover / justification they need to make their objections.

BTW fun fact! The Senate can refuse to seat an elected Senator. GA can do whatever fuckery they want to in the runoff. (edit: with a 2/3 majority, sorry)

20
jgardner 20 points ago +20 / -0

BOTH the House and Senate can -- AND HAVE -- refused to seat senators and representatives to their respective bodies.

The House could, theoretically, require its members pass a basic competency exam, drug test, background check, and an IQ test before being seated. If they are found lacking, then they send the elected person home, and the governor can hold a special election to send a new member back.

As a favor to Americans, the House could administer these checks as people declare their candidacy so voters know who the House will outright reject.

The House and Senate can both do this.

"Commies, retards, drug addicts and traitors need not apply!" should be the message to the United States.

14
meteorknife 14 points ago +14 / -0

1
Brooklyn_Patriot_76 1 point ago +1 / -0

good point, but it would be nice if we had a bigger majority tho

23
IntrepidBurger 23 points ago +24 / -1

No, it means if a state governor certifies their electoral votes and the state legislature similarly certifies votes and submits them to be cast. Legislature does not have to certify the votes of the winner of the popular vote, contrary to popular opinion. They can pick whoever they like.

In the event you have two conflicting electoral votes submitted, VP has authority to choose to reject one or both.

There's some fuzzy language involved that can be argued in court because even the Constitutional authors couldn't predict these events but that's the gist of it.

14
deleted 14 points ago +15 / -1
2
IntrepidBurger 2 points ago +2 / -0

Moreso the judiciary. If the SC for whatever reason interprets the twelfth amendment to allow both the VP and the legislature to have input on deciding the validity of the cast votes (possible interpretation) then it can create issues.

7
DisgustedByMisleadia 7 points ago +7 / -0 (edited)

For a state to be contested, one Representative and one Senator must file an objection.

But, the Electoral Count Act limits the reasons it can be contested. It will hinge on whether the electoral votes were certified by the safe harbor date (12/8, I think) per the legal process in place for that state before the election.

In Bush v. Gore (2000), a partial recount was ruled an equal protection violation just before the safe harbor date, so Florida certified their final count. When objections were raised in Congress during the electoral vote count, Gore ruled them out of order because it followed the legal process.

I don't know what happens if the vote is certified and SCOTUS rules against it after the safe harbor date.

If the governor of a state selects one set of electors based on a fraudulent vote, and the legislature submits a different set, then Pence as President of the Senate would be able to pick which set would be voted on when the Senate moves to certify. In order for Pence to do that though, he needs state legislatures to grow the balls to designate new electors in states where governors have already picked fraudulent ones

11

8

This played out in 1876( an election similar to this one, with a state that had 101% turnout, yes, the whole state, and many other irregularities), and was settled by other matters(Compromise of 1876)

The other view is that both houses(representatives and senate) have to consent to each vote. Notably if NV,GA,MI,WI,PA,AZ are all excluded, Trump wins. So Trump could win in both interpretations, assuming RINOs aren't RINOs.

blukid 6 points ago +7 / -1

I’ve heard a little about this and the role of the Vice President counting the electoral votes has always been a contested debate. Constitutionally speaking, the Vice President is the only person who is directly referred to when counting the electoral votes.

Throughout U.S. history, some have argued that this constitutional role and related statutory authority provide the vice president with some substantive authority over the counting process, including by determining which electoral votes should be counted in cases of dispute. This is a particular point of anxiety in regard to the 2020 election, due to fears that Vice President Mike Pence might use such authority to influence the outcome of the vote count in President Trump’s favor.

So I guess technically, if Pence were to stretch his constitutional authority to the max and play into the ambiguity of what the Constitution defines as “contested,” then yes this is possible.

So many good books in the Bible. I liked the Book of Job, Ecclesiastics, Revelations was a trip. Many good books.... this pope is a communist whore.
