A friend at work just posted an article about this and it says that, "85% of state's ICU beds filled."

I wonder if that is true?

I think they want people to think that the entire hospital(s) is filled, when in reality, an ICU wing is not particularly huge. Be scared!

...an ICU wing is not particularly huge.

This. I've worked in ICUs at hospitals in two major centers. One had 36 ICU beds spread over two units (medical and neuro), the other about 70 spread over 4 - 5 units depending how you count.

Same BS here in Dallas. The news ran a story Monday that all the ICU and COVID beds were full. I asked my wife who works at a hospital ward here that had 30 COVID patients in April if the beds were all full. She said they have reduced their COVID only wing to 4 beds because that is usually how many people they have. So technically, yes, their Covid beds are all occupied but if needed they could scale that to a hundred beds in a day. It’s just misleading reporting
