Committee Members,
I would like to start by thanking you for holding today’s hearing on the issues surrounding the 2020 Election. I was also very pleased to see that senators from both the Democrat and Republican parties participated. Election integrity should not and cannot be a partisan issue. Honest debate is both healthy and necessary to our republic and the many questions surrounding this election must be scrutinized by everyone.
There is an immense amount of information that was covered today and, as everyone seems to acknowledge, much more than needs to be addressed. I will focus on one simple point, on which everyone seems to agree:
It is irrefutable fact that all votes were not accurately counted and that laws governing elections were not accurately followed.
How many? No one, at present, can say with any certainty. The question of whether or not the problems are sufficient to change the election results is, at this time, not a valid question. The real question is how many votes were not accurately counted and how many laws were not accurately followed? Only once we answer those questions, truthfully, thoroughly, and accurately, can we proceed to examining the impact to election results.
We are here today because, for decades, legislatures have failed to adequately act and take responsibility for the powers given to it by the Constitution and in accordance with the trust bestowed to it by constituents. Now, we have no path forward. The is no road left down which to kick the can. Even if we disregard all evidence and all data, the fact remains that we all know for certain that not all votes were counted and laws were not followed. The inescapable result of just those two things is that we do not have a vaild 2020 election.
The next step is clear, necessary, and must happen immediately. A full, transparent, and independent audit must be completed and a full, transparent, and complete investigation must be conducted. What comes next on all questions proceeds from the results of these audits and investigations. Absent this, we do not have valid election results that anyone will have faith in and accept, nor should they.
The eyes of the world are upon you. Your actions or failures to act over the next few hours and days will impact the lives of everyone, around the globe, alive now and for generations to come.
Worth noting that numerous senators in today's hearing and the prior hearings have mentioned that the hearings only happened due to the overwhelming emails, calls, etc. that they have been getting.
Will it do any real good? I have a lot of doubts, but it seems to have gotten us this far.
