It's really interesting that they stopped counting just minutes before the Republican observers returned to the arena. It's almost like somebody was playing lookout or tipped someone off that the GOP was coming back to check things out.

They testified today that the people trying to get back in had a hard time getting through security to be let back in.

So they were tipped off by security, or at the very least had someone on their side watching what was happening at security.
