I just have to say the nursing home I work at has been mandated by the state to test all employees and residents every other day with the rapid test for Covid. And guess what? the common cold is now registering as Covid. nothing to see here, so now we have to quarantine all these people who have the common cold, unfortunately a resident with CHF got sent out for pneumonia we’ll probably not see her for a while if ever But I’m sure it will all be called Covid.

The common cold is primarily caused by coronaviruses (causative agent of "covid 19") and rhinoviruses. Different strains cause different severities Every. Single. Year.

Don’t forget many disinfectants have on their label pre-Covid that it is effective against coronavirus I only make my own Stuff but I read it on the label and I can’t remember if it was Lysol or not

Extremely doubtful that they have PCR tests with primers specific for S and N proteins for only this single strain of coronavirus.

No matter how much antigenic shift there is every years, the spike (S) and nucleocapsid (N) proteins and their epitopes are going to maintain a higher degree of similarity than difference between strains. And guaranteed not one test has published a paper demonstrating differentiation ability between strains.

Start with checking white papers on the manufacturers websites... i looked through some briefly a few months ago when a friend of mine was running logistics on sourcing test options for hospitals.

I had a friend who had a very very bad cough for a few days, and got negative too! From what we know, I thought this is impossible because I thought they put you positive just because you are around someone with Covid positive.

Seasonal flu consists of 4-5 viruses like coronavirus, rihovirus, etc. It's been fucking known for months. That's why there is a patent last year or a few years back because corona virus has been around. Covid19 is a noble cororanavirus, meaning that it is a new strain regardless of whether it is artificially developed or naturally mutated.

We should all be using what critical thinking skills we have left and start watching how numbers go up with testing but hospitalizations don’t. These residents have a cough and head colds that dissipate in a few days, that’s it, and now the facility is upside down keeping them all quarantined. So ridiculous.
Not sure you'd have access to the test records, but are there rumors floating around the floor that anyone with symptoms had tested positive?
The whole unit was tested and six of them are positive and those are the ones with the head cold and they’ve already gotten better over 3 to 4 days they were isolated quarantined within the facility

I don't even know PCR can distinguish between coronovirus vs novel coronovirus. Literally, 25% or so of common cold is caused by coronavirus. If you have cold 4 times in the near past, you will have coronavirus antibody with 75% chance that PCR can detect mistakenly.

A type of coronavirus. 229E and OC43 are what’s typically thought of as the common cold. There are seven (see below) that humans can catch, and many more that are not contagious to humans. It makes sense that given similarities a test could pick up one of the other variants, but claiming they’re the same thing is just inaccurate.
