The government is in a hysterical mode. Restaurants, pubs, "non-essential" stores were closed for several weeks (re-opened yesterday). Face masks are still obligatory in public buildings and in public transport. But many people rebel against it. Czechs have this "fuck the stupid rules" mindset.

I have to say that I’ve known a lot of based Europeans. I’ve known some that bought into the leftist narrative, but even those were far more principled and ethical than our home grown commies.
Socialists are a blight. Social Democrats are typically reasonable.

I was just chatting with my friend from Liberec (CZ). I gave him the rundown, updates and so on. I stayed in a hotel in Liberec a couple of years ago which had been preserved from the Soviet era, interesting room and radio.
You have no important it is for the United States to be reminded it's not just about America, but about democracy in the world!
I love Czech Republic, I have visited many times over the years and even spent my honeymoon with my wife in Prague during a Christmas season. God bless you and God bless your country.

Most younger people do speak at least some English and many of them are fluent. But many people born before 1970 do not speak English, especially in non-urban areas. English was rarely taught in schools before 1990 - Russian was mandatory and German common.

Glad you’re here! My great-great grandpa & grandma were from the Czech Republic (Bohemia at the time, I believe) They lived in Wilber, Nebraska for a while, which happens to be the Czech capital of the USA.
I visited Prague 4 years ago and LOVED it! You live in a beautiful part of the world with a rich history. I'm Canadian and probably shouldn't care about this as much as I do, either. But in America conservatives at least have a chance to stop the radical left in its tracks ... it's basically the default political viewpoint here in Canada.

How right-leaning is the CR? And how are your firearm laws, along with level of freedom?
It is a mix. We still have the old "Soviet style" communists that are sore about the fall of communism. They are literally dying out (but still have about 7% of votes in elections). In my generation (I was born in 1976) most people despise communism. Very young people often support the modern left/globalist parties. I hope most will get wiser when older. In elections, sometimes the left wins, sometimes the right. Now we have a left government, but it will hopefully change soon (people are really upset about the handling of the COVID stuff).
Regarding firearms, our laws are good compared to most European countries. You have to have a license, but the license is not hard to get (you have to pass a firearm handling exam, you must not have a criminal record). Concealed carry only. But in recent years the EU makes the pressure to make our firearms rules stricter.
We have literally no rules regarding knives. Small knives, large knives, any type, even swords, concealed or not, all is legal. Very different from neighboring Germany. And nobody is upset if you take a large knife to cut your snack in a public place, even on a train.

In the current state, the Czech Republic is still a good place to go. However, there is constant pressure from the EU to limit some freedoms and pass various leftist and globalist laws. So the future is not certain.
