This is absolutely true. The reality of the situation is that the majority of the GOP is willing to trade the presidency to retain a Senate majority. Along with this, McConnell and other top Republicans understand how much influence Trump has over the GOP, thus why they haven’t directly spoken out against him.
I know that there are some good Republicans (Gaetz, Cruz, etc.) but I really wouldn’t be surprised if their loyalty to Trump was simply superficial and planned by McConnell. If Trump doesn’t manage to get re-elected, then McConnell will need to approach Trump leaving office very delicately so the GOP doesn’t lose the Trump base, what better way to prevent that than having “loyal” Republicans like Gaetz and Cruz still holding on to the Trump base?
