I work in EMS and have been on at least 100 car accidents. We went on a accident were a dude center punched a tree head on at 105mph. Guess what? Car didn't catch fire.
I've been on 2 where the car caught fire, and they only caught fire later as wires started to short out.

Worked for a few years as a claims specialist looking at wrecked cars. Can confirm car explosions like this are extremely rare. Out of the thousands of wrecks i looked at (at least half major losses where we ended up totaling out the cars), i maybe saw one with burn damage.
