Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest.

Stay for awhile.

Can't even explain it, but I've been feeling it in the air. Something big is coming.

And they will call him Immanuel, which means God with us. - Matthew 1:23

I'm sure God wouldn't waste that for a Biden presidency. Or a simple presidential election. Seems like its signaling a new "birth" so hopefully we'll get wonderful news around then of the birth of a new world with evil largely defeated

Maybe those three Peace Prize nominations will count as the Wise Men.

Except the Bible never says there were three. The wise men were a group of men who followed celestial bodies and figured out the prophecy of the Messiah.

Alt fun fact Jesus was not a baby when they arrived he was mich older. The wise men arrive right before Joseph moves them to Egypt. Jesus was most likely closer to two. That is why Harrod's decree called for all boys two and under

According to Armenian and Syriac Orthodox tradition the Magi (Wise Men) numbered 12. Symbolic to the coming of the Deciples/Apostles.

The 3 Wise Men is originally attributed to a Greek manuscript from 500 AD, the number 3 is attributed to the specific gifts 3 brought with them.

Balthazar of Arabia brought myrrh representing the human nature of Christ, Melchior of Persia brought gold representing the regal stature of Christ and Gaspar of India gave frankincense representing Christ’s Divinity.

In another strange coincidence: George Washington crossed the Delaware River in a Durham boat on Christmas in 1776.

Kind of all sounds BIBLICAL!

So many instances of this going on it's insane. Lincoln "Lin" Wood was another one that stood out for me.

There are no coincidences.

Late September is probably more likely. The shepherds watching over their flocks is your biggest clue as nobody would be doing that in December. The Romans made it December 25th because that was the height of Saturnalia, which was pagan Rome's big holiday to worship Saturn.

Isn't December 25th the day of Sol Invictus aka the Sun? Also, shepherds watch their flocks only in September? Why not March or April?!

The truth is we can not know for certain what day Jesus was born or what month. It may even be that he was truly born December 25th and that the romans were correct... we can't know. as for shepherds not doing it in December? why? the cold? it's the middle east we talk about, it's always warmer than in Europe or in America.

I don't know. let's wait for his return, he will tell us. that's what we know for sure.

It has nothing to do with climate but with harvest cycles. The "fields" aren't pasture, but barley farms. Ancient Jews were required to let the poor come first after the harvest, which would have been June and July, then shepherds came to let the flocks eat the rest. They would leave at the end of October so the owners of the field could plant the next round of crops.

Actually it's based on the tradition that prophets would die on the day they were conceived. So since it's commonly accepted that the date of the crucifixion was around March 25, add 9 months. I believe there also used to be a belief that the world was created on that day as well, something like that.

Also, based on the solar calendar we have John the Baptist celebrated right after the longest day of the year to which the days get shorter while Christ after the shortest to which the days increase in length after. Which links in a what to John the Baptist saying "He must increase and I must decrease"

There are others traditions that relate to it, but those would have been what the earliest Christians used as a basis. It's not just displacing pagan traditions.

longest day of the year is June 21st.

BadManOrange 2 points ago +2 / -0

Duh. And John the Baptist is celebrated on June 25th

It isn't known what the Star of Bethlehem was, but the sensationalist fake news runs with this headline whenever there is a planetary conjunction around Christmas. Which is pretty common, not every "800 years".

1
tedrosisafag 1 point ago +1 / -0

First time in 800 years they've gotten this close.

1
Keln 1 point ago +1 / -0

Not quite. A conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn is called a Great Conjunction and happens about every 20 years. The last time they were this close in the sky from Earth's perspective (6' angular distance) was about 400 years ago.

The last Great Conjunction was in 2000, with an angular distance of 1°11'. For perspective 1° of sky is approximately twice the width of a full moon or the Sun (which are both 31' or 31 arcminutes).

The 6' distance this Great Conjunction will reach will put them super close and be pretty cool, but even at that close angle, it won't look like a single bright object.

tedrosisafag 1 point ago +1 / -0

Why are they lying about it? Or embellish it? It's still cool every 20 years either way. 400 years is cool too. How lucky to be alive to see it!

4
Keln 4 points ago +4 / -0

Daily Mail routinely gets things wrong, especially science articles. It's just piss poor journalism.

And you're right, it's really cool to be alive to see such a rare event. I'll definitely have my telescope out for this one. You'll be able to see both planets at the same time through a telescope with detail. There should be some good pictures.
