Biology 101, first day of class: 1- "Biology is the study of life." 2- "Look how pretty life is." (show pictures of birds, fish, baby lions). 3- "Life exists in a balanced ecosystem." (show pretty pictures of forests and oceans). 4- "...but overpopulation is destroying ecosystems, ..." (show ugly pictures of slums, 3rd world fishing fleets and barefooted men in Haity picking fire wood on a hill). 5- "...and fossil fuels cause the planet to warm." (show pictures of smoking industrial areas and highways during traffic jams, all in the USA, of course). 6- "As Scientists, we have the obligation to save the planet." (insist on this several times to make sure students believe this occurred to them on their own). 7- Adapt and repeat all of the above in all other classes and courses.
