Doctors aren't "smart" in the way we usually use the word. They are dedicated, and spent a childhood working hard and diligently which prepared them for the workload medical school requires. But the same mentality at 9yo that results in you doing all your homework because that's the way it is so just do it, is the same mentality that leaves you accepting whatever this paper or that journal presents as truth. When a decree from on high says you need to inoculate x every y, they accept it because they've been trained to.
Proper doctors and nurses that think for themselves know all to well the person I'm describing and how common they are.
Pharmas are NOT medical companies, they are investment companies. They are not run by scientists, and the scientists that advise at the top weren't the BEST scientists, they were the best politicians. They said what the business folk liked to hear. And since big pharma is incapable of failing (the more the fail, the more they charge to make up the difference) there is no selective pressure to be 'right'.
