Oh I think he's 100% genuine. That's just his personality.

If I had to guess, he's probably just decided that he is going to fight as hard as he possibly can, in every way he can, and let the chips fall where they may. Not that he hasn't always done that; but this time he's really playing for keeps. After that kind of commitment, there's no reason to be negative.
