could have been a molotov cocktail or some other IED. When improvising explosives you can't really be sure how much damage they will cause. Especially if whoever did that isn't experienced.
It did not look like fire works to me. It would have to be some industrial type fireworks to do that kind of damage.
It looks a lot like a 4" firework mortar. The initial explosion is what would normally shoot it out of the launch tube, then the delay, and finally the big boom
