Fascism is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.

Other than the definitions always include the term "far right" the description sounds just like our left.

Fascism takes it's name from a bundle of sticks, which are stronger when together than a single stick. It is a form of authoritarian collectivism, indistinguishable from communism in practice. Mussolini, the founder of Fascism, was a Marxist, and wrote several essays on the subject. He thought of Fascism as an improvement of Marxism for the modern era. Back in the early 20th century, leaders like Mussolini and Hitler saw a future of total war, and that Fascism was the correct and most effective form of government.
