I think he is a dumb person... must not know that to get your pilots license you have to do this tons of times, and even “emergency” landings off runway.
Eh, mostly true. During training the engine is just put to idle to simulate it failing but pretty much nobody turns it off like this guy did.
It's nothing too terrible...just want to avoid shock cooling the motor which can cause cracks in the case.k You also want to be within glide range of an airport just in case it doesn't start again and you REALLY have to land it like that.
You are correct. I just remember the dirt landing strip at our rural airport that runs perpendicular to the regular runway looked relatively smooth, but felt much different. Not much give in the rubber to absorb anything really. Shake the teeth right out of your head.
Don't let that fool you....a well maintained dirt or grass strip is smoother than an actual runway...
Just takes a ton of work ($) to maintain them. Once they get gopher holes and ruts and people kind of "give up" on it then yeah....you're going to have a bad time.
