If you go back to the Reformation era sociologists talk about how the greatest impacts were explaining things that used to be explained by God or gods. Things like dead seasons are explained by religious myth, same with plagues from classical mythology.

It's only hard to argue against the existence of dinosaurs if the person you are arguing with is a friend, and they are unwilling to think.
