As a Roku user, I agree. The PlutoTV service is where my Roku lives most of the time as it is a well organized service of many stations to pick from with a handy station guide. That said, there are many other channels/streams available for free and for pay.

Hi hello yes. BIG Roku fan here. There's much to like about it and very little to dislike. e.g.: the shortcut buttons of the remote cannot be repurposed.

It's hard to get the right balance of appropriate Internet and cable tv and have it so the price is right.

Example: as a Comcast customer I could not get gigabit Internet without any cable TV unless I wanted to pay 300+/month. If I added basic cable to that and have HBO forced down my throat with it (I don't want that shit but it has to come with it...) I can get it down to $130/month - it was 110 for a couple years but of course it went up after the "promo" garbage; at least it's staying at 130 and not skyrocketing up to over 300. I could not get it any lower than that and they make it excruciating to deal with them to change out your billing situation. I also had to do a ton of wrestling with them to not have any of their damned cable boxes and had to get my own equipment to use the stupid cable card getting escalated to their technicians in ISRAEL to have that card paired with my equipment. I could just have not used the card, but it allows me to stream television feeds without utilizing Internet bandwidth. On top of all this, I still supplement available channels with an antenna, which is another pain in the ass since antenna doesn't provide 100% signal fidelity and takes a lot of effort to orient things to get it right.

So, with all that, it's not super simple to get people to just "cut the cord" because of how these cable companies behave. Even getting lower Internet tiers of service without the cable still costs a lot so it's really going to depend on where you live and if there is any other viable options (which I'm going to say there typically isn't unless you live in a city)

It is the way to go to try and kill out that cable nonsense but be prepared to help others with the billing bullshit and probably expect to still need an antenna since they'll probably want to have the local broadcasts.

Yup, I can't get the Gig without having TV. They won't allow it. Complete BS.

Where I am, getting Internet only at the lower tier like 25 mbps is $50 per month. That's barely enough to do streaming on just one device. I'm sure going higher is going to jack the price significantly higher - doing their stupid bundling you can get 200 mbps Internet with TV for $55. I'm sure that will jack up over time to be $75 but it's still going to be way cheaper than 200mbps Internet only.

If you're going to buy a Roku buy the higher end model for just under $100. It comes with an Ethernet port and better hardware/controller. The one pictured and the cheap TV's will lag when using it. This is especially true after it's a year+ old and gets new updates.
