I thought CCP and Taiwan were on friendly terms? Or at least China already acts as if Taiwan and China were the same?

Maybe someone could clarify that for me if I'm incorrect.

China regards Twain as a renegade province that needs to be reclaimed. They are far from on friendly terms.

Okay. Thanks for clearing that up. I thought China being protective of Taiwan was because of friendly relations. Seems like China just wants to protect their claim on what they as a pretender.

Thats right. China is a predator. Twain has a sovereign government, and is independent of China.

Mainland China is the Peoples Republic of China. Taiwan is the Republic of China. Imagine if there was an East China and a West China, ala North and South Korea, except the PRC insists that nobody else recognize the ROC.

ROC maintains a completely separate government and bureaucracy. It officially asserts itself as China, and so far has not pushed too hard for de jure independence. That being said, ROC maintains de facto independence.

Within ROC, you have a standard two-party system. Instead of the usual liberal-conservative divide, you have pro-independence parties (pan-green coalition), and pro-mainland parties (pan-blue). As such, it depends on who is in power that determines the orientation of the country's politics. The current government is the DPP under pan-green, so the relationship is on less friendly terms.

Also, you have factionalism within the PRC. You have outright nationalists and militarists within the PLA and CCP. Also, you have a few technocrat coastal elites that are super cosmopolitan and globalist. Over the years, the ultra Nationalists and PLA factions have been gobbling up the CCP. Thus, the CCP unilaterally makes the relationship tense.

No, China wants to annex Taiwan and the CCP cries anytime there is a map showing Taiwan but Taiwan is in fact independent and has a lot of missiles pointed towards the mainland. After the bullshit in Hong Kong theyll be even more resistant
