This morning I went to my gym after being out of town for a week. I drive up and the parking lot was close to empty compared to normal. I walk in and find out they're permanently shut down. The frustrating thing is that this is the second gym that has closed on me in the past few months.

I'm pissed.

Fitness instructor here, our memberships are down (will take 5 years to recoup lost revenue) and our facility is operating at limited capacity. Ever since the recent “uptick” my class participation is half what they were a few weeks ago. Could be bc the holidays as well but still it’s very sad.

PUSH UP SIT UP RUN PUSH UP SIT UP RUN

I had a SGT that used to scream that everyday in the morning.

I went in an prepaid my gym membership for a year. Sucks since California shut all the gyms down but at least I was able to help a bit.

I haven't gone since the NY state government forced gyms to put in mask rules.

I'm not going to work out with a fucking mask on.

I bicycle outdoors ( too cold at the moment ), climb stairs in my building, and do weight exercises with dumbbells. That should be enough, as far as I can see.

My brother got kicked out of his gyn bc he took the mask off to dead lift. He said a woman came up to him while he was lifting and she touched the weight. He went off on her and got banned. Hes probably better off who wants to give money to a gym that is scared.

Sounds like he dodged a bullet. Corona Karens are annoying as fuck. Zero authority. I love laughing at them through. Usually they start tearing up immediately.

Same. I would pass out. I've got incurable anemia, and when I push too hard, my RBC goes down. Nevermind not being able to breath because I've got a fucking mask on.

I'm using bands and a pull up bar at home. It was the cheapest option, but tbh, it's actually been less bad than you'd think. It was also the recommendation of "Stronger By Science".

I miss lifting heavy. I'm not the biggest guy, but I liked hitting those numbers. But we can't become those fat, lazy, compliant "citizens" they want us to be. SO, this is what I'm doing now.

Just wanted to throw that out there as an option for fellow NY pedes on a budget.

I cannot breathe with a mask on - plus I don't want to give these virtue-signaling asswipes the pleasure of doing their democrat party dominance/submission games.

I only don the mask if I have no choice - supermarket, for example. In that case. I'll just wear it below the nose.

Mine is based, we technically have to wear a mask, but they don't police HOW you wear it. I just have it around my chin. Saw one dude wearing it as an armband.

There's a crazy leftist chick there who literally works out in a full gas mask complete with its own oxygen supply.

Think how pissed the gym owners probably are.

Have you:

  • written to your governor, senator, house critter, mayor, sheriff
  • protested at your capitol, city hall, county seat
  • organized a nightly bullhorn visit to your town mayor
  • armed, but peaceful march on around the public land near opened big corporate stores profiteering during this occupation

Are you sure you're not just lifting them out of business? Wearing those weights out with your red-blooded, flag waving, constitution-toting, patriotic pythons?

This sucks so much. Enforcement on Gyms hits the healthiest. It's frikkin' crazy.

I happen to be close to a Gym which has found the sweet spot - at least for now.

I’m hoping to buy some equipment from these gyms.

3
DonttrustChina 3 points ago +3 / -0

This is the goal. Gyms are notoriously conservative, fitness is part of conservative culture. Eroding our culture and isolating us from each other is the point.

You had better make sure they don't keep taking your dues out of your bank account!

My gym requires me to wear a mask and this is in Florida. I froze my account for that reason until they let me exercise without a mask. I refuse to get sweat and bacteria build up on my face, it's just totally regressive and would more likely get you sick and acne too.

DragonKnight147 1 point ago +1 / -0

That really sucks man, I know how you feel - haven't been able to go to a gym since lockdowns started - with all the shutdowns I really feel for the struggling gym owners but I just can't deal with the masks/COVID crap.

I got one of those over-the-door-frame pullup bars and have stuck to an at-home pushup & pullup regimen that's been working pretty well - just haven't found a solution for cardio now that it's much colder and I can't go for runs as often outside

Closing the one place people can go to actively get healthier is one of the most ridiculous rules of the pandemic (other than schools). I have never once in my 28 years of life seen an obese 70 year old with diabetes at the gym.

I mostly see mostly fit people under 50 naturally social distancing, wiping down equipment after use, and showering after.

Weakening the immune system of not as risk individuals isn’t going to save any lives.

Good time to buy used gym equipment if you have the room. I did it 12 years ago and it’s been awesome.

I have a couple friends up North who are shutting their gyms as well--all part of the CCP program to destroy America. FUCKING GYMS ARE CLOSING--WHERE ARE ALL THE GYM RATS???

I'm terrified this will happen to me after I idiotically bought a two year membership in advance in Sept. It was such a good deal though!

the best gym is a paintball or mil-sim club. all the running and lugging of gear will get you in to better fighting shape.

your paintball/mil-sims must be wimpy, its a 2 mile double time march with a 90lb ruck to the "Play-area" for me here in NV. lost 85 lbs in the last year only "working out" two days a week. it was not as cheep as a gym membership, but made way more friends

its 18 degrees outside right now and snowing, so not so warm. on the plus side its time to move the white devils spawn again, and that always helps upper body strength. I'm not arguing that cardio is not important it is. but cardio and basic weight lifting is not working the same muscle groups as long marching with a ruck and correct weighted "weapons" nor is it helping build muscle memory or situational awareness for when the SHTF.
