Truth be told I don't know all the ins and outs of what removing it does, compared to enforcing it / changing it etc.
Just grates on me seeing the same comment over and over when he mentions 230. Surely he must have legal advisors discussing 230 with him at length by now. Then again he's surrounded by swamp, so who knows.
the communications decency act section 230 was basically designed so the entire internet doesn't become porn. It defines the difference between a publisher and a platform. publisher is the NYT. They are responsible for what they post. Facebook is a platform, I can post whatever I want, and they can't be held liable for it. Literally illegal to sue them for damages.
The issue is these companies are intentionally misinterpreting "otherwise objectionable" to mean political opinions they don't like. By removing CDA 230 protections, this makes it so people like alex jones can sue for damages because facebook is acting like a publisher and not a platform by moderating based on political views.
Incoming all the experts to tell us how removing 230 is bad, because they know better than POTUS.
He keeps hammering the National Security angle. Maybe he knows something the experts don't.
