I absolutely hated Rick Perry. In state tuition for illegal aliens? Why the fuck are illegal aliens at a state funded university to begin with? They should have been grabbed up from their dorm rooms and deported, not given free shit.

Having said that, Abbott didn't do anything to change that, and Abbott has been responsible for untold Texas businesses failing and untold workers losing their jobs with his bullshit edicts. I'm thankful he finally figured out that was a bad idea, but we're still suffering under a statewide mask mandate for indoor businesses.

I was OK with Abbott before this year, but this year has really exposed a bunch of folks. Will definitely vote to primary.

Yup, Perry is a democrat that simply changed his party affiliation. Even said so himself, yet aaaaalllllll the Texas conservatives voted for him.

I thought the toll road you're talking about was funded by Cintra, a Spanish company?

https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/spanish-company-signs-50-year-for-profit-toll-road-deal/1934822/

Edit: I share your disdain for Perry, maybe not as, uh, enthusiastically as you, though.

Abbott got like 56% of the vote, like a 12 point lead. My parents voted for Biden and Hillary but voted for Abbott. He's good, and I don't blame him for being restrictive on covid because he's actually at risk.

Sometimes you have to think about these politicians perspectives on the virus. I don't blame Joe for wanting to lock everything down because if he gets COVID he will dies immediately. Meanwhile our president isn't afraid and even got it and recovered in the same week.

Well he hasn't really done a great job advancing conservative priorities. And not only is his COVID response detestable, his COVID panel is corporate hacks and academics. And Mattress Mack for pandering purposes. Sorry, he's a statist shit bag who deserves the rope alongside Newsome and DeWine.

1
RubyFurie 1 point ago +1 / -0

Abbott is a mixed bag for sure, as long as he doesn't lock us down again

1
JuniorMints 1 point ago +1 / -0

Texan here. Met all 3 past governors. Abbott was doing well but now...I think he has his eye on loftier positions. I expect he will run for President.

1
15aera 1 point ago +1 / -0

I agree with this, especially after his mask debacle. I sent a message to the governors office saying I did not agree with him and never heard back. He wont get my vote. He's a RINO through and through, sits on the fence too much! If you sit on the fence looking to appease both sides then you don't have conviction either way.

20
NotDangerousGame 20 points ago +20 / -0

I carry a copy of Abbott's 'Mask Mandate' with me so I can use it in a pinch. Its basically the most toothless mandate ever. It says something along the lines of 'Masks are recommended, but we can't force you and no one can bring legal or civil action against you should you refuse.'

SO I don't even think his mask mandate is really that bad. People can't even ban me for breaking 'store policy' cause to do that they would need to file a CTR or CTW against me, which they can't do because of the edict. Plus we have HEB down here and they are pretty based about the mask thing anyway.

4
Russian_ambassador 4 points ago +4 / -0

Yea I did that too, store owners don't give a shit. Heb in the Far West area went super Karen on a friend that can not wear a mask.

Even in smaller towns some folks don't give a shit about the paperwork. I had to quit my gym due to the faggot staff over masks. Oh you expect me to have 3 plates on my back with a mask or due HIIT training with it on.

"Veteran owned too"

2
Russian_ambassador 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yes. Was a week or so ago, cop messed him up. A disabled marine vet that is partially deaf.

The Texas Rangers should have taken that pos "cop" out back and shot him.

2
NotDangerousGame 2 points ago +2 / -0

I would expect that from one of the bug cities, they are our own little socialist utopias. It sounds to me like this guy needs to sue the piss out of that cop.

2
Russian_ambassador 2 points ago +2 / -0

No it was a small Texas town ( surprised it wasn't Austin or Houston) Damn I wish I had it saved (found out about it here). Maybe it's south west of DFW

Maybe an enlightened pede has the 411 on it

10
Chicken_D 10 points ago +15 / -5

Abbot got a lot of hate for the "bars being closed but can be open if they serve food" thing but the guy stuck to his plan. Lets face it, if thats the worse we have to worry about we got it good.

6
Russian_ambassador 6 points ago +8 / -2

Naw I'm not budging on the "it's only a little bit of slavery". Employers REQUIRE en mass statewide wear the mask or you don't work. Health condition, fuck you, and if you're broke good luck with suing.

Unemployment? Good luck getting someone on the phone if the employer screws you on this end.

Medical treatment and cancer screening all those months, nope. Sick mom dying in the ICU, can't see her and have to talk though a cell phone.

FUCK ABBOT. Playing political theatre with people's very lives.

2
Chicken_D 2 points ago +2 / -0

I work in Texas and my employer does NOT require a mask. It is not a statewide mandate. Go to Home Depot or Lowes or Walmart and there are people walking around without a mask.

The hospital thing is a HOSPITAL REQUIREMENT. Not a state requirement (That I am aware of correct me if Im wrong with sources)

Every state has long wait times for unemployment.

2
Russian_ambassador 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yea there are some companies like that, but more often than not you're a second class citizen in too many ways.

I can't step on company property without needing one. Lot's more places require the employee to wear one that don't.

Lucky to have a job though - the talk of getting the vaccine as a contingency to work at the office is something I'm having to ponder.

Picture being laid off for six months, and then landing a gig that would require it, in Texas. Then I have to think about how I'm going to have to fight it or quit (good luck getting through to unemployment). Also the ladypede works in healthcare, 100% required or no job. She just got into this career and planned on staying with it

Not trying to sound negative, but STILL going along with Chyna virus theatre and the possibility of having to fight on !ultple fronts when your broke and don't have legal resources is frustrating. it's my experience is all.

Naw tell that to people that can not wear a mask due to medical exemption and employer required.

Or the 17 year old that hung himself due to their histerical parents. Or the people that couldn't get cancer or health screenings for months that are now dead (but voted democrat).

It's beyond dishonest to think that's excusable or ANY Texas governor that is MAGA to let this shit go on.

Toothless mandate my ass.

Texas is slated to loose more than half of the small businesses in this state. Walmart, and all the big retailers require you to wear one no matter what or you'll get arrest, and put in a cage because you didn't act the part and wear something that's not only useless but dangerous.

1
FormerGraveheart 1 point ago +1 / -0

Or the 17 year old that hung himself due to their histerical parents

Which one was this, then?

1
MeSewCorny 1 point ago +3 / -2

I think Abbott is awesome, despite the mask mandate as well. Hes so awesome he gets overwhelming Democrat votes as well. That may sound bad, but its because he has made Texas' economy extremely resilient.

Our Lt. Governor Dan Patrick is pretty damn based also. I would like Dan to be the next governor and Ken to replace KFC chicken bucket Bill Barr as AG during POTUS 2nd Term (or Pam Bondi if Ken is not interested in AG position).

3
bill_in_texas 3 points ago +3 / -0

I was irritated with Dan for wasting the legislature's time and all of his political capital on friggen' bathroom bills. That was all brought on by Houston's city council creating a bathroom free-for-all act that was eventually overturned by....the citizens of Houston, who sued to get it on the ballot, where even liberal Houstonians voted that shit down.

So it's not that I don't appreciate Dan's effort to get a statewide prohibition on men in women's bathrooms, but it became a Don Quixote like endeavor for him, and lots of other issues went on the back burner while Dan unsuccessfully tried to get that pet legislation passed.

2
The_RedWolf 2 points ago +2 / -0

Not a chance in hell he’d be chosen simply because he’s one of the least popular republicans in Texas. (His race was almost lost in the Cruz-Beto election, all other republicans had 9+ margins iirc. I believe Gov Abbott won by like 13

47
soundsgooddoesntwork 47 points ago +47 / -0

I've been looking for Abbott to take a hard stance like Desantis and he just hasn't done it. Ken has my support for next governor.

39

9
bill_in_texas 9 points ago +9 / -0

The FBI's job is to go after Republicans. This isn't hard. Having said that, Paxton has already been under indictment for a securities issue, basically endorsing investments without having a securities sale license. Kind of a politically motivated case, that one, although Ken could have avoided the whole issue if the investments had simply not lost money for the investors. Nobody files criminal complaints when they MAKE money.

Just called Senator Lankfords office here in Oklahoma.

They stated that he has joined the amicus brief with Senator Cruz of Texas, as a friend of the court. So he did something right at least...

I am certainly no lawyer, but that sounds like he did the right thing?

2
QuantumRemedy 2 points ago +2 / -0

People in OK have loved Lankford but I've been onto him from the beginning. He was the head of Falls Creek church camp and did a good job but definitely had that "disengenous politician in charge of a church" vibe. He acted like he knew everything about Syria while he blasted Assad and said nothing about the rebels being terrorists and that's when I lost all respect. He did put in a good word at the embassy in Lebanon for my wife's marriage visa petition to be expedited so I do appreciate that.

2
Abovethefray 2 points ago +2 / -0

Well, I guess he seemed alright to me, but telling us that biden was president elect disgusted me. Goddamn Republicans should be uniting to expose this fraud instead.

Ones that don't are showing what they think of our great, blessed nation. He is term limiting out, I think. That's ok with me.

2
Mozart_K231 2 points ago +2 / -0

Wasn’t that the guy who said that he’d step in and give Biden briefings if no other Republican wanted to?

If the spineless members of the Republican Party are on board with this, then they all know something big is coming down the pipeline.

3
Abovethefray 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yes it was. That was very disappointing.... however, he is still currently a senator, so.... I made a phone call.

Am I doing this right? To my NC AG:

Hello,

As a resident of NC, the disregard for law and the integrity of vote counting in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin has silenced my voice in casting my vote here. My vote in Federal elections doesn't matter in NC if election laws can be blatantly violated in other states.

In Texas, the Attorney General is suing the states above and as your constituent whose voice is being stifled, I demand that you take these states to task on my behalf. I need you to defend my rights and my voice and this should not be affiliated with one political party. We did not have federal election transparency or integrity in those 4 states and that affects me and everyone here in NC.

Thank you
