When I was growing up, I had newspaper as wallpaper, and our house didn't have glass in the windows. One year we lived in one room of the house with big blankets over the door seals with a kerosene heater that we also had to cook on.... When someone tells me I have white privilege, not only do I tell them this story, I tell them how I had to sign up for the national guard just to make tuition money, I worked three jobs in the local retail mall to pay for my college apartment to get myself upwards into the world, I used a little bit of personal intelligence to buff my resume and get a decent paying job working in a factory... That usually shuts up the argument about circumstance.
People think being white means youre rich, and that you receive special benefits or something.. I have just as many white friends in jail as I have black friends in jail..
I cannot help that someone else decided to start gaining a wrap sheet and not steering their friends away from trouble. Bus tickets are cheap, I moved 3 cities away with everything I owned in the trunk of a compact car.. It does not take much at all to change your stars.
