I don't think SCOTUS justices look kindly on parties who file arguments that boil down to threats of "Rule in our favor, or ELSE!" Even left-leaning justices want to be respected for adhering to the rule of law (even if their conception of the law has a leftward bias), and do not want to be put in a position of having their opinions (whether majority or dissenting) tainted by the appearance of having caved to threats of mob violence.

I usually disagree with their interpretation of the law, but that's a completely different matter. They want to be seen as genuinely interpreting and applying the law, not as making decisions based on threats of mob violence.

It's how you know they got nothin' to defend themselves against the allegations. They're wrong, they know they're wrong, so they fall back on threats of unrest and violence.
