I mean there’s nothing in the constitution that says a state cannot leave the union. Then again, would they survive the shit show that would undoubtedly follow....that’s the real question.
If they want to add DC, PR as states, it may be enough just to threaten to do this to keep them from getting DC and PR and who knows where else as forever blue states.
I was talking more in the game theory sense of MAD. Basically to signal to leftists the nuclear option to achieve strategic equilibrium, that is they stand down from pushing statehood for DC PR and others.
Also if elections can be fraudulent, I imagine if they are determined enough, they could engineer it so DC and PR magically vote for statehood even though the voters are actually against it.
I believe in time we will see remainers tried rig for Brexit but it passed just barely because the voters wanted it so bad, they didn't rig it enough.
While this is true, I’m not sure there’s any way the state gets divided up where at least 2 of those don’t instantly go blue. Just based on looking at current population distribution. It would give an advantage, but not as much as we might hope, and might not even catch us up if they do PR and one other. It is my understanding that DC is off the table completely based on the law. Iirc, it can also withdraw from the union under its state constitution. It was an independent republic before it voluntarily joined the US.
Supreme Court decided this long ago, saying that the Civil War decided if states have the right to succeed

maybe some Texas law pedes can confirm.

This is so amazing - another "trump" card for the future. Yeah, how about adding another 4 red states, just in case when and if it is needed... ;-)

That would start a domino effect.
I'd be OK with getting 8 more senators.
