The real gold on the dome seems like a huge waste of money. I don't live there, but every time I have visited in the past couple years, the dome has been covered by a giant condom as if it were undergoing renovation. Are they ever going to finish it?

A resident of WV told me they redo the coating every 10-20 years because of weathering and acid rain slowly wearing it down. That's why I think it is a waste of money to use real gold.
